Indian Boycott on English Goods Sparks Merchants’ Worries
A United Press report from London on August 6 notes English merchants fear a successful Indian boycott of English goods starting August 7 could cost English traders up to 100 million dollars while shifting similar gains to German Japanese and American merchants. The Bengal region alone imports about 50 million dollars in English goods annually as part of the Hindu plan to curb British influence. Hindu leaders declare that Hindus who buy or handle English goods shipped from England will be shunned.
