The Austin Statesman prints a leading editorial in a Sunday issue titled Day of Blood When will the sun set. The piece reflects on recent mob and political clashes across Texas, detailing editorials, conventions, and calls for order amid a wave of violence and partisan campaigning.

The special ad notes Capt Killough, former Fayette county representative and Co I 5th Texas cavalry captain, was killed by John D Hunt and Bird Moore while returning from his farm on Ledbetter road. Nine buckshot struck him, his wife and child were stained with blood. R J Moore and Bird Moore were jailed as accessories. Hunt is not yet captured. The killing shocked Fayette county.
Reports from Austin yesterday state Republican officeholders expect black and green voters in Washington county to back Hancock, while disaffected Democrats return to allegiance.
