The San Antonio herald notes Mexican dollars have bullion value higher than their legal value yet only trade at ninety cents in ordinary deals, linking the discount to bankers across Maine to Texas. La Grange Record urges a wise, moderate congressional convention and a suitable nomination.
The Houston Telegram reports that despite being cut off from New Orleans the region is not isolated. Memphis remains a major cotton market and St Louis is noted as well. Sea captains should avoid infected ports to move the crop by water to New York and Liverpool, ensuring Qour cotton reaches its true market value.
An old Virginia practice, the chicken lifter and felonious property thief, is seized by a squire for theft under $50. If found guilty, the offender is whipped. The yellow fever scare appears to ease with only a few Galvestonians relocating to safer areas. Families of Gov. Lubbock and P. J. Willis have reached San Antonio.
The Houston delegation to the Waco Greenback state convention meets on Wednesday and enters the gathering without voting instructions.
