In the Circuit Court last Thursday Burnett challenged the Trustees of the Wabash and Erie Canal. The demurrer by the trustees was sustained and Burnett will appeal to the Supreme Court.

Milk sickness hits Peter Brown family. father and one daughter dead with mother and another daughter ill. Banks partially or fully pay last month’s work. Barber shop fight yields two eyes dressed. Potts hauls hay and faces issues with tying hay and horse chatter. Quarterly meeting features Elder Cooper and attendees Revs Kalley Coley Adamson Evans. Coal shipments light due to car shortages. A citizen slaughtered a calf weight 282 lbs. hide 46 lbs. Jack Frost lowers iced soda demand. Cardonia grows toward Knightsville. Dr. Morton moves office to drug store. Dr W S Crafton thrives at Benwood drug store. Post office relocates to Philadelphia Store. A B Tris notes France and England will need 134 million bushels of wheat abroad this year. The circular notes the outbreak is not abating with daily new cases and over a thousand sick, asking for money to hire nurses, provide stimulants and nourishment, and stating funds will not cover six days of expenses. Telegraph reports about fifteen cases of genuine cholera on Allen's Creek in Polk Township Monroe County last week. Nearly all cases proved fatal with five members of one family carried away, shocking a previously healthy neighborhood.
Snow fell in the area with shallow accumulation in town and several inches in countryside. Dayton reported six to eight inches on the ground and Arleston West Virginia saw forty eight hours of rain with the river rising forty inches.
Scribner's Monthly for November begins a new volume with Edward King's illustrated paper on New Orleans and Louisiana. Horrible indeed are the ravages of the yellow fever in Memphis and some towns of Texas. More than a thousand fever patients in Memphis with daily increases. Funds furnished to aid towns and cities are nearly exhausted. Supply must be constant to aid those caring for the sick. Columbus Texas is deserted and similar conditions prevail elsewhere.
A mass gathering of northwest farmers met in McCormick's hall to discuss transportation and agricultural issues. Delegates from Illinois Iowa Michigan and New York attended as the Illinois Farmers' Association State Central Committee organized the session. The morning focused on preliminary organizational details.
Our citizens owe a debt of gratitude to the Bowling Green Band for furnishing splendid music during the Fair. They are skilled musicians and sociable gentlemen who won the special premium of fifty dollars. They praised our town and likely will visit again if opportunity offers.
Financial straits force the Ivanhoe paper mill at Patterson to shut down, leaving 125 men unemployed. The Eastern and Amboy Railroad work will also be discontinued. In Colorado, six miles south of Golden City, a remarkable coal vein was found a tilted gray clay deposit containing tree trunks and limbs turned into jet black coal, along with numerous flints and arrow heads.
Brazil now has two of the finest local papers in the state the Miner and Echo. Both have recently been enlarged and are full of interesting local reading.
