A man from Lancaster, Owen County, died after being struck by a locomotive near the E and L depot at Clay City on Wednesday. The 55-year-old shoemaker, intoxicated, walked onto the tracks while awaiting a train to Terre Haute and was cut by the engine, dying Thursday morning after being carried to Kline's hotel. He leaves a family.

The missing sack of flour and Dave Lytle's ill health alarm officers. Lytle stole flour, was arrested, bonded, fled, and later found near death then recovered. He again escaped custody and fell ill at Water and Locust Streets, later returning home. he faces a jail cell and possible larceny charges. Tuesday night Sheriff Ringo found a jail break plan by inmates. Two iron bars from an outlet window were pried loose. The plot was exposed by Jim Davis, a black prisoner.

Tobe, a six hundred pound elephant belonging to Citcus and Menagerie wintering at Pernihia State, was killed Wednesday night after keepers decided to conquer him. He resisted multiple restraints and choked to death while chained to foundation walls. Tobe valued at $8,000. his skeleton will be sent to the World's Fair.

Post Office Established at Postelice by Wanamaker

Last summer residents of Stesrleyville and nearby areas applied for a post office at Postelice. Remonstrances from neighboring offices delayed action until the end of the month. Postmaster General Wanamaker finally established the office and James T. Carruthers was named postmaster, bond posted, and the office should be in operation soon.
