Death of a Well Known Citizen of Florence
F M Lowther Sr of Florence died in the early hours of Tuesday after a lengthy illness. Known as Uncle Dock, he was likely the town’s oldest Evening Star Lodge No 70 member and served as Florence’s first mayor and a longtime Justice of the Peace. A Baptist church member, he leaves a widow Kate South and three children, Tom J of Lake Charles LA, J B and F M Jr of Florence. He served in Co I 39th Miss during the Civil War and was 77 last June.
