Miss Eva Miller of Jackson spent the weekend with her aunt Mrs. O. E. Martin. Mrs. Bettie Wilson of Birmingham arrives for Brandon visits. T. H. Collier bought two carloads of cattle in Fort Worth. Mrs. Mayes Cooper returns from New Orleans and the Mississippi coast. Mrs. G. K. Martin and three children of Hot Springs plan an extended Brandon visit.
An old advertisement list promotes Owensboro Wagons and W G Barnes with mentions of Colored Red Cross Auxiliary members and other items. It notes fresh mackerel, sap pine cross ties from Myers Forest Mississippi, Chattanooga Cane Mills, and a car of Pansy and Velvet flour arriving soon along with platform scales in good condition and a prompt to write for specifications and prices.
Following up on J J Wilson work, Carl Stingily and Miss Meddie Robinson organized a Black Red Cross auxiliary at Evergreen church with officers Andrew King as Chairman Ida Currie Vice-Chairman Walker Secretary G Anderson Treasurer and several committee members. The piece notes growing local interest and a hopeful expansion as needs rise. Rankin Camp UCV in Brandon Miss calls a meeting on September 24 to elect delegates to the Mississippi Division Confederate Veterans reunion in Vicksburg on October 15 and to conduct other business. The Peace Jubilee Blue and the Gray begins October 16 in Vicksburg with veterans invited. $150,000 has been appropriated for arrangements. Reserve tents are available. full attendance urged. Fragments describe evangelist meetings in two Tallahatchie county churches and good results. Florence High School had chosen Prof. W. W. Gunn as principal for 1917 18 but he soon joined the military. His brother John was chosen to take the principal post. Schoolwork progresses with a large pupil enrollment.
The Episcopal Mission opened at St Luke's church in Brandon on the night of the 4th with Rev. Dr. Albert Martin of Yazoo City and Rev. Mr. Sessions. Services continued through the 5th and 6th with warm reception, praise for Dr. Martin, and high hopes for parish and community impact.
State of Mt Rankin County commands V Chlever Donnell a non resident to appear before Cape of Rankin Chan cery Court on the Fourth Monday of September 1917 to defend the suit filed by Bessie H Don The notice is dated August 2 1917 and signed by Clerk J A Robinson with solicitor W S McIntyre for the complainant.
