State Health Officer Urges Cleanup in Brandon
Dr. Willis Walley of the State Board of Health visited Brandon to inspect sanitation and found the town in a severe state of neglect. He cites unusable school toilets, open closets near businesses, trash and cans in streets, weeds on vacant lots, and mosquito breeding cisterns. He calls for ordinances and public cooperation to prevent typhoid, malaria, and other diseases.

Death of W. C. Ellis in Florence
W C Ellis a long time Florence resident died Saturday at 4 30 p m after three weeks illness with Brights disease of the kidneys He was about 60 born in Kemper county moved to Florence in youth He leaves a wife four sons three daughters a brother Samuel and a sister Eunice The funeral was at the Methodist church conducted by Rev J W King with Masons in charge at Floren cemetery He was a merchant farmer and stock raiser known as a leader in public life and a hospitable host The community will miss him.
