Immigrant case controversy and postoffice subsidy vote

In Washington April 13, a House clash centered on John Sharp Williams and Bennett over immigration policy and a German girl Fannie Diner case. The debate exposed motives and led to expunging Hopkins remarks. Bennett was accused of deception. The House then tackled the post office appropriation, including southern railway mail subsidies, with amendments and a final passage after votes on extending carrier pay and rural service provisions.

An Old Time Darkey Visits Jackson Today

Among the visitors was Uncle Jerry Blow a Rankin county man long known to Jacksons older citizens. A dyed in the wool Democrat in his day he rode the county promoting their gospel and preached to reach his race. Now white haired and with dimmed sight he may receive a state farm commission while still drawing a small stipend. Also Emanuel Collier a Confederate veteran and fellow old time Democratic negro remains active at reunions and civic life.

Liquor C O D Shipments Barred by Express Company

A Mississippi letter reports that after July 1 1906 the American Express will refuse C O D liquor shipments to prohibition points. The action follows orders from J H Bradley and pressure from the Order of Railway Telegraphers. Protests by ex agency workers and Memphis meetings prompted a committee to urge officers to end the trade.
