Post Office Robbery at Pelahatchie Exposes Professional Thieves

Robbers battered off the Pelahatchie post office safe door Sunday night using a hammer and chisel from the J M Porch blacksmith shop to steal 1000 in stamps and 125 in currency plus papers and records. The entry was by a rear window leaving little evidence. sandwiches found outside suggest a hurried departure. Police face a lack of clues and expect few leads.

The Rock Clay was entertained by Mrs Myra Jackson at her home on Wednesday afternoon with many games and a pleasant time. Miss Zou Miller Burney of Jackson visited her mother Mrs Burney. Vesta May, a teacher in Johns Miss, returned to Mississippi after a visit with her mother. Robert Burns, home briefly, returned to Clinton Miss, a student at Mississippi College. Daisy Graham of the Darnall Hotel visited Jackson. Irene Cooper shopped in Jackson. W H Till of Pelahatchie and D T Bilbro of Leesburg were in Brandon on business. Jim Robinson of Fannin visited Brandon recently. May Cheek of Canton visited Mrs S L McLaurin. Mrs Chas Foulks returned to Amite La after a pleasant week with Mrs McCaskill. Anna Burns visited her mother Mrs Archer in Canton. Stella Berry and daughter Jackson returned home after days with Mrs Laura McLaurin. Daisy Stevens returned from Muskogee Okla with Mrs Lockowitz and Daisy. Miss Delta Stephens is home again after tonsil surgery. Catherine Stingley, ex-resident, recovering from appendectomy in Jackson and expected home soon. H C Welch of Cato neighborhood was in the city. D B Ward, tax assessor, making rounds. readers urged to prepare assessments to speed work.
