Rankin County Registrants Reclassified in 1A List
Rankin County was one of eleven counties failing to meet the 28.7 percent threshold for Class 1A. District Board Chairman T. A. O’Herin traveled to Brandon to reclassify a long list of registrants, placing each man in Class 1A with a number indicating order for immediate military service. The roster includes Willie Tinnin, Perry Young, Hilliard Wilson, Thos. Asa Winstead, and many others, totaling hundreds of names and numbers.

Rankin County Red Cross notes June meeting highlights
The Rankin County Chapter of the Red Cross held a June 10 meeting chaired by Mrs Shields. Officers reported bank balance 121.97 with shares in general and miscellaneous funds, and 1388.00 due from the Second Red Cross War Fund. Secretary Mrs Cooper noted 280 new members and urged accompanying remittances with a name list or explanation. Chairman Mrs McLaurin reported work paused until July. shipments of knitted items and surgical dressings were organized. Publicity head Mrs Shields noted new branches at Johns and Rock Hill and Pelahatchie entertainment proceeds. Military Relief chair Miss Annie Henry described meals for 27 men on May 27 and 28 and planned future entertainment. Civilian Relief head Miss Annie Robinson discussed contact with campers and enrollment forms.
