The Brandon News announces the installation of a Cottrell & Sons 2 revolution four roller press and a Mentges folder, enabling high quality printing from envelopes to two page circulars. The paper now features a Mentenges folder, new type faces, imposing stones, and accompanying modern printing gear.
In a Mississippi State Geological Survey bulletin, Rankin County shows two lime bearing formations crossing east to west. Vicksburg limestone and Jackson clay marl occupy hillsides and stream courses. Limestone should be crushed for agricultural use. marl usable as quarried. Citizens urged to develop home industry to replace imports and avoid shipping gravel and foods from elsewhere. INDEPENDENT notes the call to local industrial growth.

Florence has twelve cars of tomatoes plus earlier beans and corn. first tomato car yielded over 2200 dollars, another brought 1785 dollars. Projections estimate 20 to 25 more cars could exceed 30,000 dollars for potatoes alone. A farmer with 2.5 acres of tomatoes expects about 900 dollars. Railroads, especially Illinois Central, cooperate to move crops efficiently.

He faces arraignment before Justice Flowers. The Emporium’s Challenge Sale in Jackson, a statewide event, has broken records and continues until next Tuesday.
