Canary Named Dewey Impresses With Talking Bird Fame
A Philadelphia canary named Dewey, owned by Mrs. William Lacey, has learned to mimic Admiral Dewey’s name and talk amusing phrases, joining a parrot lore on celebrated names. The bird, nearly 11, hails from the Hartz mountains and showcases remarkable throat development when singing or speaking. Loretta the Mexican parrot also delighted in Dewey antics, with witty quips about reporters and the admiral’s fame. A portrait of Benedict Arnold’s wife and son was recently hung at the Pennsylvania Historical Society.
