The Rankin County Sunday School Convention met in Cato Mississippi on July 14 and 15 1909. Sessions featured devotional periods addresses by S G Pope J F M Clellan Bryan Simmons C E Bass J Harvey Commwell J R East A M Shields and J P Barksdale with discussions led by P Didlake Hugh P Barksdale and W W Mors. Topics included how to get best results from county conventions the duties of superintendents and making Sunday schools attractive with music and a dinner recess and an election of officers for next year. The program outlined teaching missions and the role of teachers as soul winners with sessions on requirements for teachers and general Sunday school progress.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in a regular session with all present. Accounts were allowed for street work and school janitorial services. The board ordered an engineer’s superintendence for a model road from town to the depot and requested cost estimates from civil engineers. A letter from N H Nash of Dodson, Miss. urged better roads, road taxes and possible contract work to improve county roads during the coming season.
