Primary election guidance describes opening at 9 a m and closing at 6 p m. Managers appoint clerks and oath officials, enforce lawful voting, and supervise ballots, poll books, and tallies. They ensure voter qualification, assist readers, and count votes with procedures for refusing illegible or improper ballots.
Gov Noel removed Wm Reeves Jr from the Harrison County sheriff post after an audit found $11,000 in state tax funds unaccounted for. Reeves, who sought the state revenue collector job, was informed of the shortage and replaced as the election nears. The notice also mentions local coverage of voting place security duties and clerical procedures for the primary.
State Senator T. G. Bilbo, badly beaten recently, remains laid up at Jackson and will not make any speeches until after the first primary. He is being entertained at the home of J. H. He asserts the office was created by the people and asks Rankin County voters for support. The note closes with a Vardaman speech mention and Newton County registration figure of 2,972 voters.
The State Press denounces Vardaman as boastful about honesty and laborer friendship while asserting his life proves the opposite. It argues his claimed sympathy is fake, noting a supposed spendthrift poverty and a princely taste, with continued scrutiny promised on the fourth page.
A Rankin county voter message from Carl Stingily explains leaving a canvass for District Attorney to seek the County Prosecuting Attorney post. He argues two offices share duties, vows open court trials, and pledges enforcement, seeking support from local residents. He claims broad experience and promises to act in the state’s best interest if elected.
Ex Governor J. K. Vardaman spoke for three hours to about 1,500 people in Brandon on a political campaign swing for United States Senate. The event began at 10 45 a m with a barbecue lunch after on the school grounds. The crowd filled streets and sidewalks as Newton band led a march to the grounds. Vardaman was introduced by H L McGaskill and defended his record while answering critics with cheers greeting his remarks. He asked to do all the talking due to a strained voice from campaigning.
