Dying Jailers Crafty Escape at Hinds County Jail
Jackson Miss July 19 1922 Russell Harris Hinds County jailer killed Henry Bond under death sentence for murder during an escape attempt at 230 yesterday, then died ten minutes later in the sheriff's office. Bond, a Greene County murder suspect in an April 1921 raid, faced execution Friday. The shooting occurred after Bond killed Harris and Harris fired back with a revolver found with Bond. Harris died from his wounds while Bond was wounded and subdued in the jail passage. The manhunt followed as officers searched for Bonds. two cars pursued from Sumrall and Covington Sheriff Williams later arranged for Bond's transfer to Greene County authorities. Harris, a former police officer and ten-year jailer, sought Bond's commutation prior to the incident.

Thaddeus D May long time Rankin County resident and Brandon native dies after a lingering illness. He practiced medicine in the county for years and leaves three sons and seven daughters with many surviving relatives including L H Wilson and Wayne S May, editor of The Brandon News. His funeral was held at Brandon Cemetery amid a large gathering.

Chambers Rebuilds Abandoned Sawmill in Brandon
J H Chambers returns to Brandon and buys an abandoned sawmill. He and a crew restore machinery, replace timbers and bolts, sharpen the large saw, and resume operations east of town, mid Mississippi cod lumber daily. About a dozen men are employed, with winter work planned.
