Mississippi House Rejects Woman's Suffrage Amendment
The Mississippi House rejected the Federal amendment granting women the vote after a ten minute debate. The concurrent resolution by Mr Winter of Grenada passed 106 to 25 with nine absent. Supporters included Mrs Abernathy and several others, while Mr Mitchell led a waning fight and Mr Sheldon urged passage. The scene included laughter and heckling as lawmakers debated constitutional rights and white supremacy during the vote.
