A dry goods firm touts a bulk purchase of twenty five thousand yards of cottons including calicoes lawns and domestics. For ten days they offer yard wide brown domestic at 5 cents per yard, white lawn at 6 cents, calico at 5 cents with a limit of 50 yards per customer, claiming scarce factory prices.
Hardware department promotes a grandest cooker with thirty utensils for 25.00 and six other styles from 9.00. The ad emphasizes sturdy, non cheap construction not found elsewhere.
The store proclaims its grocery department offers 20 pounds of Standard Granulated Sugar for one dollar with in person purchase only and a strict limit per family each day. It also advertises Extra good grade Coffee at 110 cents per unit, notes last week’s high prices by New Orleans drummers, and lists various potato varieties Bliss Triumph Second Crop Early Rose Peerless along with fresh garden seeds promising strong yields if customers cooperate.
In Doddsville Sunflower County a mob of 1000 plus gathered after news of Eastland murder. A woman and John Holbert were chained to poles, set aflame, and killed as the crowd cheered. The capture details involve W. O. Eastland, E. I. O Neal, and Luther Lloyd, with bloodhounds and a long chase across counties. Three innocent Black people were shot during the manhunt.
