County Board Sets Road Work and Agriculture Plan
The Rankin county board met February 1 1909 with full attendance and appointed new road overseers and contractors. J D Ross won a bridge contract for 119 dollars. Ed Jones and Herman Wilson were excused from public road work for two years. A county agriculture commissioner position was created with a 300 annual salary and five demonstration farms. J L Buchanan was named county commissioner for 1909. The board approved road and bridge projects, loan applications, school payments, and numerous expense accounts, and announced a special election to fill a mayoral vacancy for February 16 1909 while noting a call for a water trough on the public square.
