Practice Cruise to the Pacific Begins Navy Armada
The Atlantic fleet ships depart Hampton Roads for a 13,000 mile ocean crossing to the Pacific. Rear Admiral Evans commands a vast force including sixteen battleships and support ships, with stops at Trinidad and Rio for coal, then Magellan Strait bound for Magdalena Bay to join the Pacific fleet. The operation is likened to a massive army transfer, with vast supplies, fuel, and planned maneuvers under a powerful combined armada.
