McNair Disrupted by Penitentiary Scuffle with Raney
While touring Rankin county state penitentiary farm with six representatives and one senator, McNair fought Capt Raney after which Raney dragged him away and slapped his face twice. Convicts aided by Patterson and others led McNair to a tree then out of the premises as disruptions followed. Legislature members defended Raney saying McNair was intoxicated and behaved violently.
