Homeward Bound by Tom Rhea Phillips
The George Washington, a former Kaiser ship turned U S vessel, begins its homeward voyage from Europe on December 15. The seven hundred twenty two foot liner carries eleven hundred sailors and about four thousand returning soldiers, with crew and passengers enjoying orderly quarters, daily papers, meal times, and weathered seas, as officers enforce cleanliness and safety while the ship sails toward New York and the Statue of Liberty.
