Funeral Obituary and Brainerd Fire Department Celebration
Sirs- Of consumption, October 25, 1888, John mith aged 85 years. A painter by trade, he resided in Brainerd for years. The Brainerd Fire Department, of which he was a member, conducted his funeral from the Episcopal church with Rev. Davis officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Brainerd Fire Department celebrated its sixth annual gala day, with a parade and speeches by H. C. Stivers, J. H. Koop, Mayor Hemstead and ex-Chief Leopold, followed by a ball at the armory and a banquet at Mrs. Closterman's hotel. The day was declared a grand success.
