City Council Considers Purchase of Electric Light Plant
At Monday night’s meeting the city council adopted a resolution to buy the local electric light plant for 52000 dollars. The company will furnish 500 horsepower and a site for twenty years, plus a bond for fulfillment of the contract.

Brainerd yard switchmen strike after wage dispute
The Brainerd yard switchmen walked out after wage demands. Despite a pay raise for night workers, the walkout continued and conductors had to operate the yard. Henry Wood, a conductor, was assaulted near the City Restaurant. three attackers pleaded guilty, were fined $35 plus costs, and the defense claim of railroad provocation was rejected.

Brainerd fire department plans its sixth annual parade on Wednesday the 24th with Fargo Little Falls and St. Cloud departments joining. The Brainerd band and five company unit will lead a 2 pm march starting at the hose house, ending at the rink for speeches by Mayor Hemsted and H. C. Stivers, followed by a ball and banquet.

The republican club met Monday in Sleeper block to elect a marching club captain and plan speeches by Gen Jas H Baker and Ignatius Donnelly. D W Travis resigned as captain. Wm E Seeley elected. Dr Groves named first lieutenant with Sam Parker as second. Delegates to the Minneapolis convention were Groves Sundberg and Ingersoll with proxy rights. A general arrangements committee was formed.
