District Court Opens Under Judge Stearns Indicts W R Sanford
District court in the 1th Judicial district opened with Judge O P Stearns presiding. The grand jury indicted W R Sanford for murder in the first degree in the killing of Hugh Dolan. Sanford pleaded not guilty and a change of venue may be sought. The grand jury also returned indictments for Myron Davenport for murder in the second degree and for manslaughter in the second degree in the killings of John Polly and Charles Polly. Davenport’s wife was released from custody. Additional indictments included Rev T A Vandry for adultery and for libelous publication. Vandry pleaded not guilty. Bail set at 9500 in each case. Other matters included indictments involving Gus Beaulieu and A Norrow, and various civil and local cases. The court scheduled further proceedings for the week.
