Parker's offers fine fruit confectionery and cigars with delivery, while the Kentucky Liquor Co. sells imported cigars wine and beer with delivery. E. E. M. Smith promotes cigars nuts and fruits and coats his shop as a cigar headquarters. W. J. Dyer & Bro. market music books and records with new arrivals and offer tuning services and clothing from Westfall's store in the Towne McFadden block.
A. E. Veon offers Elgin watches from 88 dollars upward and all stock at the same ratio. Goods are purchased under a warrant and sold accordingly. Visit Veon before buying to catch the opportunity.
The notice advertises Day and Meagher selling a large carpet stock at low prices and various discounts at Hopper & Co. Westfall promotes cheap boots and shoes, jackets, trunks, and clothing with sale prices. Westfall offers agency for James L. Libby Co. shirts and a limited edition gold plated match safe with Punch cigars. Towne McFadden block hosts the new store with affordable clothing.
John Robinson's circus failed to harvest while Wakelee property on Seventh street changed hands. Local people return from travels, shops advertise, and new signs appear. The Dispatch notes arrests, stables, thefts, a bank opening, and a duck hunting trip as well as fireside updates from Brainerd and nearby counties.
Mrs C Ditmore and her daughter Ducky visited friends in Plainfield Iowa on Monday night. They are mother to Will Ditmore a clerk at Totton's fire establishment and were among visitors to Chippewa missions at White Earth Wild Rice River Red Lake Cass Lake Lerch Lake, Brainerd reports say.

Last Sunday afternoon a fire partially destroyed the Havens residence as Mrs Havens and family were away at church. The blaze started in a wood box behind the cook stove with origin unknown. East Brainerd fire department responded quickly, saving some furniture but the interior was burned and water damaged. Insurance valued at $200 for the house and $200 for the furniture. Mrs Havens suffered hair burned and facial burns while trying to save belongings.
The John Robinson circus visited Brainerd on Tuesday and offered the best show in memory with a strong menagerie. Despite receipts being several hundred dollars short of expenses the performance pleased attendees. Notable acts included trapeze, contortionists, trained dogs, and strong-man displays with a guided tour by press agent L. S. Steele. Admission was unusually low at 50 cents.
The Crow Wing county boys are described as gay fellows. Brainerd resident T J Fitzgerald returns from Gull River area to Aitkin. Aitkin sees a new Cedar street residence by S Cluff with Frank Bell carpentry. Kimberly post office closed with mail redirected to Aitkin after the postmistress’s resignation. Dr J C Rosser of Brainerd, after six months in the southwest, visits Aitkin and will stay in Brainerd. Night Watchman William Maghan drowns after falling from the steamer Fawn near Aitkin. he was 62 and survived by his wife and seven sons.
Frank Rhodes and Leora Pierce, both of Brainerd, were married in Minneapolis on September 19, 1885. Rhodes is J. H. Rhodes’s son and has held trusted local positions. Pierce, a dressmaker, has worked in the city. they left for Cleveland where Rhodes works for a major wholesale house.

Brainerd city council reviewed Surveyor Whiteley’s grade report for the high school grounds and ravine bridge. The bridge will be 572 feet long with 33 spans and 32 bents, starting 61 feet north of Kingwood street and 23 feet east of Bluff avenue. September payroll set at 258.83 with 50 withheld for unconfirmed police appointment. Adjourned meeting fixed city property taxation at 10,000 for the next year.

The board passed a resolution allowing dissatisfied parents to request a weekly teacher party report on a pupil’s standing after writing to the principal. Parents must visit the school once a week while the report is required, and the resolution will be published in all local papers.
The Itasca county board met Oct 6 1885 in Brainerd with Commissioners Martin and Farrar presiding. Bills were approved for jailer services printing books and clerk duties. The board adopted a highway opening project and created School District No 8. Appraisers were named for state lands, and next meeting set for Nov 17 1885.
