Disgusted Peters Seeks Retirement Over Expense Burden
Kansas congressman Peters argues retirement after this term to escape high costs of office. He cites $150 monthly hotel room, $100 for a stenographer, daily $1 postage, $30 to $40 for conveyances, $50 plus for land case work, and $50 for incidental loans. Monthly expenses total about $450, exceeding his salary, spurring him to seek focus on private business after four terms.
