Haynesville merchant J W Marshall declares 28 years of rheumatism cured after using six bottles of Swift's Specific. He touts the remedy as the best of all rheumatic medicines and hopes others profit from his experience. Local names listed include C L Spaulding, L Camp, EJ Brownson, W A Fleming, and others.
A Texas resident reports six years of rheumatism with leg paralysis and sores. After trying patent remedies with no relief, Swift's Specific improved swelling and pain within weeks, culminating in a full recovery after fewer than a dozen bottles. State and district judges and congressmen faced no opposition and received nearly the full county vote. Cass county's annexation to Crow Wing county failed 403 to 459 as ballots sometimes did not comply with legal wording. Amendment of Art. 8 of the constitution passed 1,327 to 14 in the county.
Gus H. Beaulieu a Chippewa Indian sues T. J. Sheehan Indian agent alleging unlawful taking of printing materials valued at 500 dollars from the Chippewa reservation on March 25 1886. Beaulieu claims ten years residence on the reserve and that on November 5 1886 he was arrested and removed from the reservation with a large posse seeking damages of 1500 dollars.
The unprecedented sale of Bos chee's German Syrup astonishes the world. It is touted as the safest and best remedy for coughs colds and lung troubles. It claims to heal the parts affected rather than dry up a cough and keep disease in the system. Sold by all druggists and dealers for 75 cents a bottle.
Alderman F W Eaton sets up a hunting camp eight miles south of Northern Pacific Junction with a neat cabin and a resident guide. The Minnesota Supreme Court heard the case State v Northern Pacific Railroad Company in St Paul on Monday. Attorney General Hahn for the state and W P Clough for Northern Pacific argued over whether the railroad pays 3 percent of gross earnings on the Brainerd to Minneapolis line in 1885 or if rates of 2 percent Brainerd to Watab and 1 percent Watab to Minneapolis apply. The dispute also centers on the 1873 tax law for St Paul Stillwater and Taylors Falls lines and when Northern Pacific began its tax obligations, with the state contending the 1877 statute links the line to the older Minnesota and Pacific system and the 1873 act expired in 1882 for sub-3 percent rates.
