Frank Peeke returned to the city on Sunday and after his wife filed for divorce over his recent Duluth incident he persuaded her to live with him. A personal clash occurred at the N P depot that night as the couple and her brother, Wm Albrecht, dealt with the situation. They then boarded the midnight train to Brainerd where they will reside.
The Germans of the city formed a society and elected officers on Sunday with Werner Hempstead as president J H Koop as vice president Herman Blank as secretary and H Miller as treasurer A bylaws committee was named Henry Theviot Frank Schmelz Herman Titze John A Dennis and H C Miller and hall organizers Chas Greeves J W Koop and Wm Dennis were named to secure a suitable room likely at the Sixth street school house The group aims to unite local business leaders and grow into a leading city organization.
The Star-News reports Sheriff McLaren of Brainerd challenges Judge Sleeper’s ruling that non citizens cannot hold office. It argues Americans cannot allow foreigners to govern unless naturalized and renouncing allegiance to all foreign powers.
Rumor of K S Paine flight shocks the business community as C H and N M Paine corroborate the tale of a missing partner. Arthur M. McMullen, 18, died Wednesday after four weeks of typhoid fever at Mrs. Gleason's residence. Employed by the Northern Pacific railroad as telegraph operator in Brainerd for six months. Survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McMullen of Minneapolis and brother C. E. McMullen, N. P. train dispatcher. Funeral held at Mrs. Gleason's with Rev. J. A. Rowell, Evergreen cemetery burial.
