Northern Pacific officials plan a syndicate to develop Brainerd water power beyond lumber use. They secured a dam and power option contingent on granting the electric light plant and franchise as a city bonus. The city would pay $3,600 yearly interest and bond principal on maturity, in exchange for fifty street lights for Brainerd for twenty years at no cost.
The St Paul News notes Robert Elsmere's death as a spark for discord and unsettled beliefs at Yale Theological School. Professor Russell faces resignation pressure after lecturing on miraculous elements, earning student followers and prompting Williams College to offer him a professorship.
In Wixesparre Pennsylvania a laborer named John Stevenson was found presumed dead and placed in a coffin. He woke in the box on the way to the gravesite and later recalled drinking whisky Saturday afternoon. He was revived at John Cashen’s residence and is in weak condition.

Deerwood reports last Wednesday night fire at R. H. Morford's store wiping out contents. Suspected tramp involvement. several loiterers seen earlier. Morford to begin work on a larger store soon while adjacent lumber and construction progress continue. School term updates and local notices follow with reassignments and illnesses noted.
Karl Gardner known as the German comedian and singer will present his new Tyrolean comedy Fatherland at the Sleeper Opera House on Thursday evening June 6. The work by Sidney R. Ellis features Gardner as Herman Leopold with scenic effects and a strong supporting company. He also sings Tyrolean songs including The Lilac.
M L Swartz advertises a closing out sale at cost on carpets oil cloths and draperies. Located next door south of the skating rink, customers are urged to call and see for themselves.
An open letter from Civil War veterans asks the press to examine the pension system before Congress acts next session. It argues Europe’s nations spend far less than America and compares casualty figures to show how many veterans deserve aid, urging liberal reforms and timely action. A Finn injured while working on dump cars was brought to town by a tote team. He could not speak English and did not have his injured limb dressed. Village authorities moved him to Central House, fed him, and sent Dr Bernard to dress the leg before buying a ticket to Minneapolis.
Dr Breyfogle and friends toured Little Falls noting 96 frame buildings and 22 brick structures erected since last May. The visit highlights a remarkable local building record for a city the size of Little Falls in the Northwest.
