Brainerd citizens elect an all new city council and endorse Mayor Hemstead's administration by a 162 vote majority. Nominees for council president include CG. L. Spaviprxe J. S. Gardner and J. H. Koop, with several other strong candidates noted.
Following Dr Hemstead's election the Journal predicts at least two dozen saw mills will be set up in the coming month. The Friar is described as crazed by the result and readers are asked to overlook his flighty language during gatherings.
Otter Tail fixes cattle on the hoof inspection fees at 20 cents for runs under four and 15 cents for larger lots while sheep and swine inspectors receive 12 cents per head. In Crow Wing the pay is 31 dollars for cattle and 50 cents for sheep and hogs, a generosity reflected in higher per-animal rates. Despite more kills in Otter Tail, inspectors’ pay remains about double in Crow Wing.
The school bond defeat disappoints the school board and many residents. Of 837 bond votes, 217 opposed bonds, while 302 voters did not care which way it went, based on city officer vote totals.
The Duluth public and the Herald condemn the new meat inspection law as a statewide curse. They demand repeal and warn that only unconstitutional ruling or illegal evasion could provide relief, calling it a masked cheat backed by false hopes of revenue for cattle owners.

Rumor says ten leading citizens of Fergus Falls have agreed to curb city treasury expenditures to legitimate purposes only. They reportedly will seek court aid if needed to enforce the plan. Fergus Falls Journal reports the word.
A misreading by the operator caused a collision between a Northern Pacific passenger train and freight No. 18 near Crystal Springs, Minnesota. Engineer Bass and Chief Clerk Slatterly died, while baggage man Nichols and clerk Lounsberry were injured. Many cars and horses were destroyed. passengers were unharmed.
Fergus Journal summarizes the recent law targeting dairy sales in cities over 2,000. Milk dealers must pay $1 annual license fees by May 1 or within 30 days, register owners drivers and vehicles, and display license numbers on all transport. Violations carry escalating fines and jail time.
The Anoka Herald profiles Bob Dunn of Princeton as a forceful party man who favored his side and fought hard to block bad measures. Judge Fleming of Brainerd is praised for service to the state despite causing controversy at times and earning some opposition.
