John Pacia of Brainerd Minnesota challenges Win Megqueir of Royalton Minnesota to a twenty five round glove contest under Marquis of Queensbury rules for a purse of five hundred dollars per side to be staged six weeks after signing articles at the Little Falls opera house. Pacia says Megqueir has backing in Royalton and recalls a prior disputed fight at Red Sand Lake. Megqueir replies he accepts the challenge and will meet Pacia in Royalton upon signing, using the smallest gloves legal.
Dr J C Rosser formerly of this city writes from the Big Fork river describing the landscape as an aristocracy of nature with rivers mountains and forests. He recalls April 10 1893 crossing the river and notes springs elk fur bearing animals squatter sovereignty and pine scarcity while praising the region for geologist agriculturist and archeologist interest and promising to write again when he nears Rainy River.
A special Board of Trade meeting at the city hall elected C N Parker to fill the unexpired president term. E C Stivers presided in J H Koop’s absence, with N I Parker also elected as member. Committees were formed to solicit members and to consult Northern Pacific about paving First Street, while admonitions urged delinquents to settle accounts before June’s annual election.
