Gigantic pine land sale linked Brainerd region growth
Minneapolis Journal reports a $1.5 billion pine land sale near Leech Lake to a Minneapolis syndicate including Nelson Tenney E W Backus Shevlin Carpenter Carpenter Leavitt Harr and J W Day with Wells Bros of Clinton Iowa. The Brainerd mill Sawmill and B N M railroad will be operated by Wells Bros and the line extended to Cass Lake. The deal ensures timber for Brainerd and Crow Wing County for 15 to 20 years, boosts Brainerd as supply hub, and may prompt new railroad links toward Rainy Lake country.
