Holzhay Shot Ends Prisoner Reign of Terror in Marquette
Reimund Holzhay, a convicted train robber and murderer serving life at the branch prison in Marquette, attempted to seize a fellow convict and threatened two wardens with a knife. Deputy Warden Hawley, aided by Warden Tompkins, shot Holzhay in the right hand, destroying four fingers and the knuckles, leaving only the thumb. The incident halted further violence as Holzhay sat unconscious and whispers of regret spread through the city.
