Monitoring Moose Study Aims to Save Minnesota Northwoods
A Minnesota research team undertakes a 1.6 million study to find why northeastern moose are dying as the population drops to about 2,760. They will collar 100 adults and 50 fawns with GPS devices to track movement and trigger rapid necropsies within hours of death, while analyzing parasites and climate links. Researchers operate with QuickSilver Air equipment and USDA labs, hoping to reveal the causes before moose vanish from the region.
