Community events include roller rink closure, a Brainerd baseball invite to Duluth, fourth of July plans at Woodland Park, and a roller rink reopening September first.

Front street brick block advances and new Motley store
The Brainerd-Brainerd area reports progress on a brick block on Front street and Mr Cale’s new Motley branch store starting well. Lu Lee eyed Brainerd laundry opening but fears over-saturation. Sly Bootblacks aboard Brainerd circus train case
L. M. Jones and a Swart boy rode south of town to the Brainerd circus. On returning the brakeman found a boot black hidden under a seat and the train was held. Eleven more bootblacks were found, two of them darkies, and all were put off. They boarded the next circus special and left.

The third ten hour race for the Brainerd championship and the gold badge presented by Mr Slipp will be held Thursday evening July 2 between Otto Olson and Joe Veon. The race decides who keeps the badge. The rink is rented for the event and admission is 25 cents for a ticket valid all day.

Friday Rogue Show Fools Brainerd Crowd With Medoc Jewelry Scam
Friday afternoon and evening in Brainerd drew a large crowd for a tight rope act on Sixth street. After the show a man promoted a fake sale as an agent of Medoc Jewelry Company selling sleeves buttons and chains at low prices with promises of returns. He handed cash back to some buyers and offered more, then moved to other classes selling gilt pens claimed to be Medoc gold. Many spectators were gulled by the scheme.

Meeting of the society endorses relief spending plan
Mrs Breheny reports a Tuesday meeting with Mrs Mallory regarding relief work. Officers listed include D D Smith as chairman and Mrs Merritt as president. The treasurer shows 250 dollars spent on groceries 40 on shoes 10 on medicine and clothing with 20 dollars remaining. From now to September only flour will be issued to the needy pending another fundraising entertainment. About thirty four families have been aided. Mrs Breheny resigned as secretary and D D Smith was elected to replace her.

Col Davison of the Valley City Record rebutts a St Paul Globe report claiming 114 fish caught at Detroit lake. The Globe's错误 is corrected noting Sylvan Lake near Brainerd where fishing occurred on Saturday. The piece also covers a school entertainment at the opera house praising performances by Mise Smiths class and individual pupils with high regard for Miss Smith and Miss Campbell.

Follett Dies in Brainerd at 47. Illustrious Illinois Lawyer
Hon. N. D. Follett, aged 47, died in Brainerd on June 24 1885 after a long illness. Born March 17 1838 in Bellevue Ohio, he studied at Dartmouth and Ann Arbor, graduated 1866 in law, and formed a La Salle practice with E F Bull. He later served as judge of probate, superintendent of public schools, police justice and court commissioner, and was La Salle city attorney. He moved to this city for health, recovered enough to work, married, and left his widow a handsome home. Funeral at his late residence Sunday at 4 pm with remains to be taken east for interment.

A large Sixth Street crowd gathered as Leopold Bros opened a case of boys clothing. Sailor suits for ages five to ten went for 2.50 each and children’s waists for 50 cents. The crowd, impatient at times, left satisfied saying the event felt like a circus at Leopold Bros.
