Memorial Day Observance Draws Record Turnout in City
A citywide Memorial Day celebration featured a 2 o clock procession with the Third Regiment Band and numerous civic groups. Capt. W. P. Spalding greeted spectators from his porch as the march paused near his home. In the park, speakers included Hon. H. C. Stivers and several pastors, with Father Lawler leading prayers and Germania Maennerchor providing music.

Brainerd High School Commencement Ends Year With Seven Diplomas
The Brainerd high school commencement at the opera house Saturday evening honored seven graduates Misses Elizabeth Somers Etta McPherson Daisy Bane Nellie Merritt and Messrs C A Allbright J M Smith F A Bell. The event featured student essays and music with Rev Jenkins addressing the graduates before diplomas were handed out. A Detroit Record obituary of Rev Dr Fletcher J Hawley followed, detailing his life from Vermont to Santa Cruz New Orleans Danbury and Brainerd and noting his wide esteem and long service to the church and community.

Fergus Falls Council Opposes Armory Funding Request
At Fergus Falls the city council declined to appropriate 550 dollars for an armory for Co. F as requested by Col. Bond. The city attorney says the law is unconstitutional because it makes taxation unequal. An application to the courts to force the council will doubtless be made.

Freight train timetable adjustment to Staples trip
Arrangements with the railroad will run the after noon freight train into Brainerd ahead of time on Monday leaving at 1 30 p m to accommodate patrons traveling to Staples for the Knights of Pythias lodge. A coach will be attached.

Railroad Officials Inspect Brainerd Shops Visit
A party of P. P. rail road officials led by Thomas Oakes visited the Brainerd shops on Wednesday for an inspection. W. S. Mellen said planned improvements would not start until mid July to assess the wheat crop before taking steps. The group departed for L. F. & D. points at 2 p.m.
