Col Jones’s July report on Mississippi system reservoirs
The July 24 report details Pokegama reservoir capacity issues and legal hurdles delaying work. It proposes subsidiary reservoirs at Deer and Bass lakes and dredging to boost capacity. It notes Gull Lake rights negotiations, no start on the project, and an upper Crow Wing plan for a 6.75 billion cubic foot dam, plus multiple small reservoirs. It calls for rebuilding weak Leech Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish dams and strengthening both dams due to safety limits and water waste. Continuous hydrological records show 12 to 18 inches rise at St Paul during low water.
