Brainerd Minnesota weekly description lists N. H. Ingersoll and F. W. Wieland printing from Sleeper Block rooms 5 and 7. Rates are $1.50 per year. Described as finest job printing office in the city. Entered at Brainerd post office as second class matter.
Brainerd remains without a brewery while others report circuses, lectures, and social events. Reports include a contend for dam work by mid August, a Brainerd elephant visit, a contortionist on Sixth street, and crowds heading to nearby towns for harvest and horse races. The Globe notes thefts near Como and a bear tale. A new jail rises, a Nordic society plans a Deerwood picnic, and open air concerts shift to Wednesday evenings by the band stand.
Fr J Spencer visited St Paul on Tuesday while Mrs C J Wilson returned to Minneapolis. Frank Farnham moved to Duluth with his family. Numerous locals including Rev N B Kelly and Frank Kindred camped at Long Lake. others visited Champlin and Bird Island. A municipal police vacancy was filled by Frank Jarboe.
Last Monday at 1:40, a fire destroyed the Brainerd brewery and its contents near the ice house. Nick Koop escaped with household goods as firemen blamed lack of hydrants and hose for the fire’s rapid spread. Insurance was $5,200. Ort’s $22,000 investment may be lost as rebuilding is doubtful.
Grand Forks Plaindealer reports a stranger in Grand Forks posing as Prof. Fischer a dancing teacher. He charged ten dollars for twenty lessons and took tuition in advance then vanished. He has allegedly run similar schemes in Casselton Wahpeton and other towns. The paper warns residents and recalls past misdeeds while noting he behaved properly in Brainerd.
W. W. Cole brings a large tented show to Brainerd with seventy acts including a Roman hippodrome reproduction and a real race track with forty English and Kentucky horses. Dr. W. F. Carver’s Wild West scenes feature 100 scouts cowboys Indians and vaqueros as part of the program. Day & Meacuer note their shoe stock is now perfect after new purchases.
Westfall introduces a special merchant tailoring service with tailored measures and suits completed quickly. The program emphasizes rapid production and custom fittings to meet urgent demand, highlighting efficiency and customer care.
The Journal Press notes Brainerd race managers advertised fairly but hosted a Brainerd entry that dominated, banning St Cloud horses after a rough first heat. Stung locals vow no more Brainerd entries, calling hospitality and ethics into question amid the contested event.

The Board of Education invites sealed proposals until August 1 1886 for delivering 500 cubic yards of black dirt for the High School grounds. The board may reject any or all bids. A Maniem Clerk.
Westfall carries Field Thayer Co boots and shoes advertising the Dongola Kid Shoe as the nicest dress shoe. The Congregational Society of Brain erd plans to sell sixteen church block lots, urging immediate application via L E Lum in Hardly block. A mortgage holder list is to be entered on tax books. County Board of Equalization meets July 19 with objectors urged to state non taxable mortgages to J E Winsor auditor.
Mrs James Douglas returns from Wisconsin visit. C A Ruffee as next representative. Circus at Brainerd next Friday. Uncle Jim Douglas likely postmaster after Nary resigns. Gull River sees eight new dwellings this summer. Abe Phillips builds a dwelling on his homestead. A daughter born July 5 at Labell ranch near Winford D T to Mr and Mrs Griffin. Mart Flint proud as grandfather of first granddaughter. Two months of reduced prices to clear fall stock at E M Westfall No 38 Front Street. Call early and often.
An Eastern Exchange report says a cigar shaped raft 400 feet long with the beam of a sea vessel will depart St Johns N G for New York in a few days. It carries 3 500 000 feet of logs valued at 35000 dollars and will be hauled by a regular ocean steamer. Weather conditions will decide success as a storm could total loss. The aim is to avoid duties on sawed timber by using logs entering free.
