The St Paul winter carnival is underway drawing visitors from around the world. A local dispute over editorial plagiarism erupts as Brainerd’s Tribune denounces Halstead as a plagiarist and defends Willard Glazier’s pamphlet.
A Duluth firefighter narrowly escapes a duty neglect fine after claiming he was bathing when the alarm sounded. He is excused for failing to respond but fined five dollars for taking a bath during duty hours.
The state homeopathic institute circulates a petition asking lawmakers to place the third insane hospital under homeopathist care. It claims one third of state practitioners are homeopathists and asserts their treatment is the most successful.
In St Paul a new urban fad prompts wealthy residents to require their coachmen to shave. The coachmen respond in print, insisting there is only one true coachman in the city, with others serving as woodsawyers and gardeners. The sole real coachman is said to work for T. F. Oakes of the N. P. road.
Joseph Porter, 65, of Moose Lake, was struck by an eastbound snow plow on the Northern Pacific railroad five miles east of McGregor on Saturday. Deaf and unaware of the train, he was thrown fifteen feet, found unconscious by section men, and taken to Aitkin for treatment.
The dam progresses despite efforts of kickers and a threatening letter to Mr. Kindred over the brick yard project. A pile driver keeps at work as residents call for locating and punishing the writer of the murderous threat.

The engine on four sleigh runners with hot drive wheels is rated 150 horsepower and can haul 8 to 12 sleds of 2000 to 3000 feet of logs along an ice road at about four miles per hour. Night and day operation on a six mile road could yield ten trips per day, reducing horse use and cutting costs on longer hauls.
Alex Crawford of Duluth inherits nine hundred thousand dollars when a cousin in Australia dies leaving a substantial estate. The bequest makes him the beneficiary of a life changing inheritance with no complications noted.
