James Funk, former Brainerd resident, was found guilty by a Willmar jury for killing his sick wife on December 6 1887 at Logazm House Willmar. Defense claimed temporary insanity from intoxication and head injury. minimal evidence supported it. Jury verdict followed explicit judge charge. sentencing postponed to consider exceptional circumstances for life imprisonment.
