Willard Glazier of Syracuse declares in a letter to the Buabenp Disparch that Lake Itasca is not the source of the Mississippi. He details an 1881 expedition from St Paul to Brainerd and Leech Lake, claiming a pristine lake Pokegama above Itasca as the true fountain, and argues earlier explorers missed it. He notes Indian testimony and routes via Kabekanka river and Leech LakeAgency, and asserts Elk Lake may be the outlet connected to Lake Alice.
