A mob of white men hanged Henry Greenwood a peaceful colored man near Cherry Valley Cross county on Sunday morning. About twenty men seized him from his home dragged him to a tree and hanged him. The mob leader was identified as Bob Wilson by Greenwood's wife and was arrested. He was remanded to Jonesboro after a preliminary trial with bail denied for safe keeping.
A blaze last night gutted the Southern Female University of Alabama in Birmingham. All but one inmate escaped. Miss Minnie Deen reentered the burning building, her hair catching fire before G B Robbins saved her from worse harm. Loss estimated at $25,000.
Edward Ruesdal was arrested for the murder of Michael Horan after a dispute at a Monon Railway location. The men, both Monon railway employees, fought, were separated, and Ruesdal returned to shoot Horan, hitting him near the heart. Horan died ten minutes later.

Hugh McCauley six-year-old son of William G. McCauley of 905 Burr street was fatally injured when a sleigh upset near the East Seventh junction with North St. Paul lines and was struck by an electric train. He died at St Joseph's hospital after being mangled and crushed. his father escaped with minor injuries.
In Ruthven Iowa an elderly man aged seventy five hanged himself in his Ruthven home sidetracked by domestic trouble. He fixed a rope to a screw in the window frame of his bedroom and died by his own action. The son, a section foreman, had recently joined the Advent church and quit work on Saturdays, prompting the elder man’s dissatisfaction and resulting tragedy.
In Kansas City on December 13 the investigation into John Reid of the Western Trust and Savings association reveals him as president of the board cashier and all other officers. Reid testified at length while the failure is described as one of the most outrageous swindles in the city.
Osage Iowa December 13 Frank Torsleff of Mitchell long missing was found in a stall beneath a horse which kicked him down and stepped on his face crushing the bones. He had not regained consciousness and recovery was in doubt.

San Diego California December 13 A Mexican man named Pancha aged 113 and totally blind died in a house fire believed caused by cigarette and matches carelessness. He was left alone in the residence when the blaze started.

A letter from Guerrero reports Gen Canuto Neri’s forces remain active and undisciplined. The revolutionists captured and hanged Gen Vicente Vilada, a former federal judge, after the federal troops hanged insurgents they captured and left bodies exposed.
Judge Kelly opened the state case against J J Meiggs in the criminal court. Meiggs stands indicted for grand larceny in the first degree as an accomplice of Fleury Morris Miller and Howard in the August 14 clearing house robbery. Few people attended. no jurors yet secured by 3 PM.
Fire yesterday morning burned Bartlett and Mallett's hardware store and Basom and Basom restaurant. Losses totaled 37,000 on stock and 2,000 on building with 4,500 and 1,400 in insurance respectively. John A. Abraham's building lost 1,000 with 500 insured. The artesian well worked splendidly and saved the town.
