At a Saturday night meeting the Brainerd city council passed a resolution to raise the saloon license from $500 to $1000. The move prompts debate over mayoral action and legality, while applicants for licenses were notified of the result.
M G Foley of Arlington Minnesota visited Cass Lake to survey soil for brick making and predicted Cass Lake would become a key town west of Duluth when settlement opens. He noted lime in the soil but found some first class clay and a near water-logged site. He plans a return visit to establish a brick works. The Red Wing training school for girls faces constitutional questions and possible court action if moved from its current location.
Northern Pacific Railway Company notifies Henry Brinker of Crow Wing County Minnesota that due to default on a land sale contract dated December 29 1890 the company elects to cancel terminate and declare the contract null and void effective January 27 1902 by order of F W Wilsey Eastern Land Agent dated June 5 1901
Notice of final proof filed by James Towneson for land in Crow Wing County. Hearing set for December 14, 1901 before W A Johnston, court clerk, at Brainerd. Also probate order for Carrie Lagerquist administering Peter Lagerquist’s estate with six months to file claims and monthly hearings through mid 1902. Publication of notice in Brainerd Dispatch for three weeks.
