Prisoners Escape Jail Window Break Details
A county jail escape attempt occurred when two prisoners Edwin Decker and Geo Gardner finished sawing off lower window bars during deputy absence. They jumped from the jail window but fled before authorities could catch them, leaving with stolen tools and money from a Bemidji safe. Additional reports describe another escape attempt by Philo Ward from a logging train near Pine River.

The marriage of J Herbert Speers and M Edith Edwards took place Wednesday evening April 26 at the bride's parents home on 9th street. Rev James Clulow officiated with Miss Lillian Isabelle as bridesmaid and W H Angel as best man. The groom works in Northern Pacific shops and will reside in Kalispell Montana after a visit to St Paul Fargo. A prior package shower for the bride occurred April 21 hosted by Mrs Westfall and nineteen guests. Out of town guests included A D Arundel and Roland Arundel Staples and A W Wheatley Staples.

Destructive City Fire Destroys Two Dwellings and Barns
A Wednesday afternoon blaze in the south part of town destroyed two barns and outhouses, damaged two houses, and killed a horse. The Molstad barn, tied to Jens Molstad, and the Turcott barn, were engulfed by wind-driven flames started by boys with matches. Molstad’s residence caught fire next, with Dickinson’s home two blocks away suffering roof destruction before firefighting controlled the spread. Estimated damages total around $1,400 with most insured for Molstad’s barn and Dickinson’s home. Molstad’s household goods suffered heavy loss without insurance.

Forest Fires Devastate Minnesota Town of Nary
Parched conditions across Minnesota and the Dakotas fuel wildfires sparked by locomotives and careless burning. Friday afternoon the town of Nary on the B and M line was nearly destroyed, with two general stores three saloons a large hotel three ill reputed houses and many residences burned, leaving two to three hundred residents homeless. Additional fires near Crow Wing and in surrounding woods prompted rapid firefighting efforts by local shops and crews.
