London, England, publishes six hundred monthlies five hundred twenty four weekly papers and twenty eight dailies. The dailies reach more people and exert a wider influence than the other publication classes combined.
Le Sueur Sentinel editor James J. Green was horse whipped by Mrs. H. R. Wood on Main Street Saturday after she accused him of circulating defamatory stories about her character. She confronted him at noon, used a cowhide, and maintained control of her temper during the attack.
Early Friday a shanty twenty two miles from Agate Bay burned. Frank Diedrich escaped the blaze and walked nine miles to a Duluth and Iron Range Railway supply station where he died from burn injuries suffered in the fire.
The new free-school law will cost Boston $150,000 this year and $10,000 annually thereafter. If honestly administered it may prove a public benefit and will tend to prevent local school boards from being subsidized and corrupted by school book publishers, a common issue in most states.

Northern Pacific plans a bridge over the St Louis river between Conner's Point Wisconsin and Duluth. Plans are prepared and a contract will be let soon to finish within 120 days with a target completion by September. Omaha and Manitoba will use the bridge but ownership remains with Northern Pacific to establish a future Duluth gateway.
