Officers election and important business will be discussed. attendance requested by President A J Hatsteap and Secretary H Relff. Ed Chamberlain plans to move to Minneapolis this week. Gull River saw mill to restart when ice clears, with only the circular gang and shingle mill operating this season. Local market updates note Honnett adds a meat market. tramps remain numerous and women alone should be prepared with a revolver for self defense. Prices for hay have fallen. some are regretting not selling earlier. Poison has been laid to deter nuisance dogs.
J. B. Church and A. L. Nutting have bought E. W. Lynch’s grocery at No. 17 Sixth street. Possession is given and the new firm plans to make the store the city’s leading grocery. Nutting comes from L. J. Cale’s cash grocery with strong ties, while Church has long Brainerd experience. Also notes tobacco and rug listings at local vendors.
Crow Wing develops into a busy point with Everest & Brady expanding agricultural implements, W. H. Everest buying F. O. Sibley’s farm, and Joel Smith loading timber for Duluth. The Crow Wing school starts May 2 with Miss Bessie Gilatcha to teach. local shops promote goods from Westfall’s clothing to Swartz’s wallpaper. A political update notes a April 19 mayoral vacancy election and Republican candidates Dr. Camp, Carl Douglas, W. W. Hartley, John Willis, with labor-backed contenders and possible Democratic figure Stivers.
An old advertisement lists a 160 acre farm with 50 acres tillage and 60 acres meadow offering easy terms and accepting stock as initial payment, signed by C. H. Wier. It also contains endorsements from Rev. J. Henry Sayrae and a note from Exes H. Soepson praising Mellin's Food for mothers and children. The Mississippi Water Power & Boom Co seeks immediately 500 000 feet of oak timber and 1 000 000 feet of Norway or white pine, plus 1 000 tons of stone, with payments of 69 per thousand, 6 per thousand, and 7.50 per cord respectively.
