First Brahman Type Cattle Reach Texas Recounted
Brady resident William H. Miller recalls his grandfather John David Miller bringing two hundred Brahman crossbreeds to 1859 Texas. The herd, driven with enslaved workers, settled in Victoria and Calhoun Counties at Green Lake and helped spark the state’s beef industry. The tale, told from a Brady Hospital bed, ties to early Barrow and Keeran lineages and traces the origin of Brahman influence in Texas cattle.
