The 1969 Brady Bulldogs team list includes players David West Willie Jones John T Jones Steve Kyzar Jay Partin Vernon Joynes and Marc Boswell. Assistant coach Teddy Allen and head coach Del Wilson lead with M C Routt Kenny Penn Bob Burk David Whitworth Ricky Aice Gary Price Armando Anostroza Denny McNatt Terry Penn and Jim Ross. Not pictured are William Ben Williams and trainer Jimmy Young.
Brady's Bulldogs open the season at Ballinger in a District 7-AA clash under coach Del Wilson. Ballinger stars 6-3, 190-pound Howard McDaniel and 180-pound tailback Jimmy Gomez, with Ballinger favored to beat Brady's 11 returning lettermen despite Brady's quick defense and Craig Dodds healthy at running back.
Rejoicing in the State Capitol as the tax bill and appropriations measure pass. Lt Gov Ben Barnes pushes for annual sessions, Gov Preston Smith opposes, with voter sentiment split. Sixty four teams from West Texas contest the Brady Partnership Golf Tournament at Brady Municipal Course. 128 golfers start Saturday with 18 holes, Sunday flights and prize irons for flight winners and woods for runners up. City Supt. Feazelle starts play, barbecue Saturday night. Last year’s champions listed. field includes teams from Fort Worth, San Angelo, Austin, Kerrville, San Angelo, and many Brady players.
The Stacy Doole News correspondent Mrs. C. O. Moore returns after a long vacation and illness to resume her popular community report in the Brady Standard. She promises thorough coverage of area residents and signals her column will appear in today’s edition.
Autumn rains continue in McCulloch County with three showers this week. Brady recorded 0.35 inches followed by 0.36, and a 1.81 inch Wednesday night, as stations including East Sweden and Ford Ranch reported the heaviest totals. Eden and Melvin also saw significant rainfall. Water over low crossings and Brady Lake rising noted.
The banquet honoring Senator J P Word of Meridian to end his Governor for a Day celebration will be held at the Convention Center of the Terrace Motor Hotel in Austin on Saturday September 20. Proceedings begin at 730 pm with oath of office in the Governor's office and receptions scheduled through the day. McCulloch County friends are invited and dinner tickets cost 5 dollars each obtainable from Murray Jordan County Attorney or at The Standard office.
The McCulloch County Grand Jury met Wednesday returning eight true bills seven no bills and sending five cases for further action. Elise Martinez faced two counts liquor to a minor and destruction of public property under 50 dollars with two 100 dollar fines plus 38 dollar costs each. Arthur Perez was fined 100 dollars for destruction under 50 dollars plus costs. Leroy D. Apodaca and James Clark faced burglary charges with guilty pleas and punishment deferred. Sam McCollum III served as court appointed counsel and George Day prosecuted. Other charges included willful killing of a domestic animal and theft of horses and other thefts.
Brady JH Lions open the 1969 football season in Brownwood Tuesday night with the eighth graders taking on Brownwood JH eighth grade. Kickoff 7 p.m. Seventh graders play a 6 p.m. preliminary. Coaches are Tommy Starnes and Dickye Moore. Eighth graders schedule eight games this fall. seventh graders seven.
Brady Chamber of Commerce directors and spouses were invited by President Aubrey Bierman to attend a U S Highway 87 barbecue and reception at the Country Club September 16. Directors discussed Sidewalk Sale success, brochure committee progress, and potential joint city chamber projects.
The 1969 Bark yearbook issued to Brady High School students is dedicated to Coach Charles Brewster a basketball and tennis coach and math teacher. The dedication praises his friendliness to students devotion to the school and commitment to teaching and helping math students.
