Brady Farm Boy Alton Terry Remembers 1936 Olympics
Lake Jackson resident Alton Terry a Dow Chemical accountant recalls hitchhiking to Drake Relays and Berkeley in 1925 then rising to American javelin records. He later joined the 1936 Olympic team in Berlin finishing fifth despite a prior practice distance of 236 feet. Terry’s career included NCAA champion throws and a Glasgow Invitational win, with enduring memories and a battered Berlin javelin as a prized memento.

Fike Texas August 30 1960 with schools resuming and fall field work underway. Lohn school opened Monday enrollments steady from last year. Cotton yields improve with recent rains though worm damage remains. Farmers apply dust or spray to curb insect damage. Mrs H D Roberts traveled to Alamogordo New Mexico with Don Jackson and Mrs Nancy Turner of Brady to visit Bill and Marty Finlay and others in San Antonio. Donald Finlay returned to San Antonio for a visit. Local Rochelle Art Club members Mrs Willie Dennis Mrs Maggie Lankford and Mrs Estelle Murrah spent Tuesday afternoon here.
